Chapter 5
The dark web is a marketplace — and your data is listed
The credential economy is vast, organised, and efficient. Understanding where data flows explains why continuous, broad monitoring is the effective countermeasure.
Stealer log markets
Venues sell complete “logs” from infected machines — every credential, cookie, autofill entry, and system fingerprint. High-value corporate VPN access can sell for hundreds of dollars.
Combo lists & dumps
Bulk username-password pairs sold by the million feed credential-stuffing. Even a tiny valid fraction across millions of rows means thousands of working logins.
Initial access brokers
Actors with footholds sell access to ransomware groups. Much of that supply chain starts with infostealer output.
Private Telegram channels
Stealer groups distribute fresh logs to large subscriber bases, sometimes minutes after exfiltration.
